In 1993, after 15 years working in agricultural retail and custom application businesses, Bernie Paulson and his wife, Pat, started McPherson Crop Management. The business was based out of their home in St. Clair, Minnesota, located in McPherson Township, Blue Earth County. The early focus of the crop consulting business was to assist farmer clients in the areas of nutrient management, weed control, and seed selection. Early adaption of GIS software and GPS based soil sampling kept Bernie Paulson and McPherson Crop Management on the leading edge of the Precision Agriculture in South Central Minnesota. After moving to Pat's home farm in 1998, the long time dream to farm the surrounding 172 acres was made possible. Farm Works Software and Hardware was added to the company offerings in 1999 and the first full time employee, Andy Dimmel, came on board in 2000.
Business Growth was the key driver to move the business from the farm office to nearby Janesville, Minnesota in 2005. The move to a store front, with retail space, was instrumental in the annual double digit sales increases at McPherson Crop Management. Andy Dimmel has taken the lead on Nutrient Management and Field Operations. Preston Wheelock joined us in 2006 as a summer intern and now is our full time Field Technician, sampling 27,500 acres in 2009. In 2008, Bernie Zellmer joined the staff to take the lead role in Farm Works Software and Hardware sales, keeping MCM in the "Top Five Dealers in North America" for the past 6 years.
These additions have allowed Bernie Paulson to focus on business development and the GreenSeeker Technologies, using the home farm as a demonstration and proving ground. In 2009, McPherson Crop Management was a sales leader for Trimble's GreenSeeker RT200, supporting farmers and custom applicators as they managed 60,000 acres with the GreenSeeker System. 2010 continues our focus to bring the latest in information and technology to our farmer clients in South Central Minnesota.
This success has brought recognition to the team at McPherson Crop Management. Trimble invited Bernie Paulson to speak at the 2010 Trimble International Resellers Conference in Loveland, CO. Bernie spoke about the challenges farmers face when adapting new technology including collecting good data, using GIS software to compile the information, and finding properly trained consultants to assist with analysis, decision making, and deployment of these recommendations .
McPherson Crop Management understands these challenges facing today’s farmer and the need to provide the best products, service and support to our customers. With this experience and the complete line of Trimble Products, McPherson Crop Management will continue to grow and assist our customers as they adapt the next generation of Precision Agriculture Tools.
